Arts Council awarded community art project

‘Dartmoor Beasties’ is an Arts Council England-funded project that builds on Scott’s work creating colourful monsters (traditionally at festivals/schools, normally on walls/panels) on local Dartmoor rock, fusing his creativity into the landscape. The project features both large permanent art works by Scott in unexpected locations around the Dartmoor town of Moretonhampstead, and smaller artworks by Moretonians on doorsteps, in gardens and on hearths across the town. Whether large or small, these installations aim to break down preconceptions about contemporary art in public and home spaces. Scott’s larger artworks are an inspiration for the smaller pieces, promoting and celebrating creative play with a ‘do-it-yourself’/street-art ethos for adults and children alike. Whilst these pieces draw on urban underground art and comic-book colour, they bring this into conversation with local Devon myths of pixies and ‘little people’, reimagining them for the 21st century.

The Dartmoor Beasties Project is funded by Arts Council England.

The Dartmoor Beasties partnership project led by Artist Scott Walker working with Moretonhampstead Primary School, MED Theatre, The Yard Youth Club, Green Hill Arts and Blackstone Quarry.
