Scott Walker is a UK based artist and illustrator with professional experience in festivals and events as well as industry and commercially based projects. Scott’s interactive cartoon installations (UP AGAINST THE WALL) draw inspiration from contemporary character design, outsider art and urban street culture. From the St George's Day pavements of Dagenham with Billy Bragg to a residency in the lofty ION art gallery in Singapore, Up Against the Wall breaks down preconceptions about art and brings out the colour in adults and children alike. His shows invoke the riotous atmosphere of urban underground art mixed with mad cap humour and comic-book mischief.

’There is definitely a sense of excitement from people as they approach the wall, perhaps it’s the feeling that they are being slightly naughty or just the hypnotic effect of so much colour’ ... With paint pen in hand young children go wide-eyed as older kids simply get busy, teenagers rush around signing their names or adding characters and adults create mini masterpieces lost in concentration. Sometimes there are tears as little artists are finally prised away from the wall by time-pressed parents; there is always a lovely buzz of liberated people and the click-clack of shaken paint pens.

Scott has a comprehensive portfolio of commercial art commissionsand can create an original graphic for your event whether it is a celebratory one or has a more work/corporate focus.Clients include: Glastonbury Festival, Amazon, Google, BBC Radio 1, Microsoft, Harper Collins Publishers, Guardian Magazine, Network Rail, Amnesty International, Mean Fiddler, Open University, University of Exeter, Action for Children. As well as presenting at events and festivals, Scott works as an educator in primary, secondary and special schools where he teaches contemporary character design that aims to promote confidence through creative exploration and play.

In praise of Scott’s work

"... Its gone from a plain wall to a brilliant wall!"
Student, Westover School

"Scott worked with the whole school in the Autumn term 2009. He worked with each class using foam shapes that enabled children to create their own characters which they then drew and added colour designs to. Scott then took the children’s characters and enlarged them by drawing their outlines on large white wooden boards. All of the children then used the acrylic paint pens to colour in the designs. Children of all ages were able to work together.
The end result was fabulous. The designs and colours are bright and bold and they are on display around the outside of the school building. They have transformed what were dull walls.
They children all loved working with Scott. They were interested in learning about him as an artist and seeing examples of his work. They found him inspiring and responded really well to his demonstrations and encouragement. His interaction with the children of all ages was excellent.
This term Scott worked with us again to create a Community Art Wall in the playground. He used more of the children’s design outlines on a long smooth wall and during our village Fun Day everyone in the community came along and coloured them in using the paint pens. The paint pens are excellent as they make no mess and dry almost instantly."
Mary Dolan. Head Teacher, Tregadillett Primary School.

“…everyone agrees what a great success the wall (and you!) were and we all hope that we will be able to work with you on future projects.”  Alan Milne. Community Safety Manager. Network Rail.

"...Scott communicated very effectively with me, as the teacher, which made it very easy for us to function as a team with him as the facilitator and me dealing with class management. He understood my aims well and was able to deliver what I had asked for. Overall I was delighted with the session; the children had an excellent experience, as the feed back from the class was unanimously very positive. "
Cheryl Parish. Year 4 Teacher. Halterworth Community Primary School
.

"...The project at Westover School centred upon designing and making an internal panel for our Gallery incorporating the skills and talents of 54 Year 4 children and the able artists within the school., 21 in number. The whole of the school staff were also keen to draw on the walls so we invited them to participate as well.
The panel was 10 metres long and 1 metre deep and the planning brief was individual tags as a border, top and bottom and fantasy creatures in the central space.
The project worked extremely well, Scott and I planned well together in advance so both adults were familiar with objectives and expected outcomes. The staff involvement was brilliant and the children responded to the challenge with confidence and maturity, a really successful venture."
Judie Brown. Head of Art, Westover School

"Scott Walker worked with two year six classes at Milton Park Primary School, Weston-Super-Mare recently. He arrived promptly and was extremely well prepared, bringing all necessary equipment with him. This consisted of art materials and paint pens, which were new to the children, so the whole experience for them was original and stimulating.
Scott engaged the children in drawing activities which they could all take part in and then this led on to the actual task in hand, which was the creation of a 'Welcome' sign for Milton Railway Station. This was completed in the time allocated and we were all extremely pleased with the result.
The children and staff described the experience as ‘fun’, ‘creative’, ‘colourful’, ‘cool’, ‘different’, ‘arty’, ‘unusual’ and 'I want to do it again!’
We thoroughly recommend Scott for this type of work after witnessing his artistic skill and his ability to interact effectively with everyone. "

Statement

London in the early nineties; ‘Myself and some friends were making ultra violet street-art/graffiti on giant canvases and renting them out to clubs and events - taking our art to the masses and, occasionally, getting paid!
Our company grew into event production with backdrops and scenic work featuring in BBC Radio 1 live productions, Kiss TV, Music industry launch parties and music festivals.
Today i count myself very lucky to be working alongside event production companies and educators making murals and bringing some joy and colour to the world.’ Scott Walker.
